I wasted a lot of time battling the 3D import problems, but now I'm back on track.

I've now got the ability to use different textures and have a the light source affecting the walls.

With a light source in, I can get on to pre-rendering the sprites with some shadows and seeing how they look dotted around the scenery.

I'm going to put together a few models for objects I see locally around here in Adelaide, rather than use the stock objects as seen in the US, such as fire hydrants and post boxes.

This is what a fire hydrant looks like in Glenelg, a popular beach/holiday suburb here in Adelaide.

Of course, this level of detail won't be visible in the 3D world, but it doesn't take much longer to add it.
